Cunard Line has expanded its fleet with the delivery of the new Queen Anne, marking the first addition in 14 years. The handover took place in Italy, underscoring a significant milestone for the historic cruise company.

Officially handed over at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in Venice, the Queen Anne becomes the 249th ship to sail under the Cunard flag. This marks a new chapter in Cunard’s illustrious maritime history, as it sets sail for Southampton to prepare for its inaugural journey.

    Delivery Ceremony Highlights

The formal handover event was graced by dignitaries including Italy’s Minister of Enterprises, Adolfo Urso, and Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani. The presence of these officials underscores the importance of this delivery both for Italy and the cruise industry.

Katie McAlister, president of Cunard, Paul Ludlow, president of Carnival UK, and Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, were also in attendance. The delivery of Queen Anne not only represents a significant investment but also strengthens ties between Cunard and Fincantieri.

    Features of the Queen Anne

Queen Anne promises an array of luxurious features, including Le Gavroche at Sea, curated by Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux. This unique culinary offering is set to enhance the onboard dining experience significantly.

Guests will enjoy diverse wellness options, with exclusive packages developed by Harper’s Bazaar UK’s beauty experts. The ship also offers an extensive range of fitness and spa facilities, unmatched in the Cunard fleet.

Additionally, the Pavilion will host screenings by the British Film Institute, adding to the cultural enrichment available onboard. The entertainment choices reflect Cunard’s commitment to providing varied and high-quality experiences for its passengers.

    Strategic Significance

The introduction of Queen Anne allows Cunard to operate four ships simultaneously for the first time since 1999. This expansion is pivotal for the brand’s growth strategy, offering new itineraries and enhancing market presence.

With its maiden voyage scheduled for 3 May to Lisbon, the Queen Anne is expected to attract both seasoned and new passengers eager to experience its innovations.

By doubling down on luxury and sophistication, Cunard aims to reaffirm its position as a leader in the premium cruise market, appealing to discerning travellers worldwide.

    Cancellation of Test Voyage

A planned test voyage for travel agents, initially set for 29 April, was cancelled following a cautious review. This decision reflects Cunard’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a flawless maiden voyage.

The keen attention to detail in safety and preparedness highlights the company’s dedication to operational excellence, even at the cost of rescheduling prior engagements.

    Future Voyages and Events

Queen Anne’s upcoming sailings include a notable British Isles Festival Voyage, culminating with a naming ceremony in Liverpool in June. This event holds special significance, celebrating Cunard’s heritage in its spiritual home.

The itinerary is crafted to offer unforgettable experiences, interweaving luxury travel with historical and cultural exploration.

Such voyages are anticipated to draw significant interest, fortifying Cunard’s reputation for exceptional journeys.

    Leadership Perspectives

Katie McAlister expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are so excited to welcome Queen Anne to our fleet…marking the first time since 1999 that Cunard will have four ships in simultaneous service.” This statement signals a bright future for the brand.

These leadership comments underline the anticipated impact of Queen Anne on Cunard’s operational capabilities and market strategy.
