Plymouth anticipates welcoming over 10,000 cruise passengers this year as bookings soar by 40% compared to 2023, marking a significant uptick for the city.

This growth is attributed to the influx of major cruise lines, including those visiting for the first time, which is expected to bolster the local economy and create numerous employment opportunities.

With a 40% increase in bookings, Plymouth is set to host over 10,000 cruise passengers. Among the 14 confirmed vessels are expedition ships like Seabourn Venture and luxury liners such as Silver Dawn. These visits promise a substantial economic boost for the city, encouraging local businesses and opening up new job prospects.

The city’s port is set to receive luxury vessels and first-time visitors, providing diverse experiences for tourists. Additionally, German operator Phoenix Reisen will bring ships like Artania, marking its presence in the English port.

Inquiries are already being made for 2025 and 2026, indicating a forward momentum that underscores Plymouth’s strategic planning in the cruise sector.

This surge in cruise activity creates not only immediate hospitality jobs but also long-term employment opportunities. New roles in logistics, tour operations, and port services are likely to emerge as a direct result.

The engagement with cruise line executives and media demonstrates a strong commitment to promoting local attractions and hospitality, forming a key part of Plymouth’s cruise strategy.

Other ports, such as Liverpool, are exploring new strategies to manage their cruise terminals, indicating a dynamic shift in how UK ports are adapting to increased cruise activity.

Plymouth’s foresight in securing advance bookings for coming years suggests a promising future for its cruise industry.
