The Advantage Travel Partnership is calling for intensified lobbying in the travel industry to influence policy-making positively. With an impending general election, the industry faces a critical juncture to shore up its reputation as a key economic player.

During a recent address at The Advantage Travel Partnership’s Big Celebration Lunch, Julia Lo-Bue Said emphasised the need for proactive lobbying. The aim is to not only react during crises but also to shape policies beforehand. With upcoming electoral changes, maintaining the travel sector’s prominence in government circles is vital.

    Strategic Lobbying and Political Influence

The Advantage Travel Partnership recognises the significance of lobbying in strengthening the travel industry’s position. As the United Kingdom approaches a general election, the sector needs to ensure its economic contributions are acknowledged by policymakers. Julia Lo-Bue Said, CEO, highlighted the importance of influencing policies to benefit the industry proactively.

Speaking at the consortium’s first major event in four years, Lo-Bue Said stated, “Lobbying isn’t just about shouting during a crisis, it’s about our ability to influence and shape policies before they come to fruition.” This proactive approach aims to cement the industry’s role within government dialogue.

    Direct Government Engagement

Lo-Bue Said’s participation in the Tourism Industry Council establishes a direct connection between the travel industry and the government. This role provides an open line to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

The Advantage Travel Partnership has engaged with senior government figures and facilitated discussions at both policy and industry levels. Strategic meetings with civil servants and ministers have furthered the travel sector’s interests significantly.

    Advancement Achievements

The Advantage Travel Partnership reports a remarkable year with considerable growth and strong financial performance. The group’s strategic vision has driven its financial achievements and increased recognition of travel agents’ roles.

A 25% enlargement in their membership post-pandemic aligns with their growth plan. This expansion is pivotal in their strategy, supporting various operational models and disciplines within the industry.

In 2023, the collective turnover reached £7.6 billion in the UK, with a 69% increase annually. The global network reflected an annual spend of £15.6 billion, showcasing substantial financial health and operational growth.

    Future Growth and Strategic Plans

As they approach 2024, The Advantage Travel Partnership plans to expand business solutions spanning the travel ecosystem. This includes forming new partnerships and enhancing services across transportation, financial, technology, and consultancy sectors.

Julia Lo-Bue Said further remarked on plans to broaden their service scope to cater to the end-to-end travel experience, reflecting a comprehensive strategic approach.

    Recognition and Leadership

At recent industry awards, Celebrity Cruises was lauded as Latitude Supplier of the Year, reflecting ongoing partnerships.

Additionally, Beverley Travel’s recognition as the Most Engaged Latitude Member marks the collaboration and active participation within the network. Such recognition only strengthens the consortium’s authority in the sector.

    Enhanced Industry Engagement through Leadership

The recent promotion of Jonny Peat as senior commercial manager underscores The Advantage Travel Partnership’s focus on strong leadership. His role signifies a commitment to advancing the cruise sector within the network.

The consortium is encouraged by rising cruise bookings, reflecting successful engagement with cruise industry stakeholders.
