Riviera Travel has initiated a strategic shift by promoting Will Sarson to head their river and ocean cruise product.

This move comes as the company bids farewell to Katja Hildebrandt, who has been integral to their cruise offerings.

    Leadership Transition at Riviera Travel

Riviera Travel has appointed Will Sarson as the new head of product river and ocean cruise, following the departure of Katja Hildebrandt after 16 years with the company. Will Sarson, who previously held the position of head of product strategy and long haul, is poised to enhance the company’s cruise programmes significantly.

In his new role, Sarson will be responsible for overseeing Riviera’s river and ocean cruise itineraries. This includes meticulously planning new routes and boosting existing ones. His expertise in strategic product development positions him uniquely to drive innovation and growth in the company’s offerings.

    Roles and Responsibilities

Sarson will continue to report to Robin Shaw, the chief operating officer, ensuring that his transition into the new role aligns with the company’s strategic objectives.Sarson’s comprehensive understanding of both river and ocean cruises will be vital in crafting a seamless operational strategy.

As part of this transition, Riviera’s capacity management team will shift their reporting lines from Sarson to Neil Puffett, head of aviation and transport, starting from 1 September. Puffett’s collaboration with the team since June last year is expected to provide continuity and stability.

Sarson will formally assume his new role in November, following a dedicated handover period beginning in early September. This transition phase is designed to ensure a smooth changeover and uninterrupted service delivery.

    Executive Insights

Robin Shaw expressed confidence in Sarson’s capabilities, stating, “Will’s know-how and experience means he is ideally placed to step into this critical role.”

The transition is expected to be seamless, given the close working relationship between Sarson and Hildebrandt over the past eight years. Shaw further articulated, “He and Katja have worked closely together on a number of initiatives related to both river and ocean cruises.”

Sarson shares the company’s ambitions to expand and refine their cruise programmes, aiming to propel the business to the next level.

    Strategic Vision and Plans

Sarson himself acknowledged the strength of Riviera Travel’s existing cruise products, which he described as “amazing.” His excitement about further developing these offerings underscores his commitment to maintaining and elevating the high standards set by his predecessor.

Reflecting on the achievements of Katja Hildebrandt, Sarson added his appreciation for her foundational work, “I am excited to build on all of the fantastic work that Katja has put into making our cruise offering the best in the business.”

    Recent Developments

Earlier in August, Riviera Travel announced a significant collaboration with Celestyal Cruises, launching a new 10-night Athens & Greek Islands cruise and stay itinerary.

This partnership marks a key milestone in Riviera’s strategy to innovate and diversify its cruise offerings, enhancing the travel experiences available to their clientele.

The initiative is part of Riviera’s broader strategy to introduce fresh, enthralling options, thereby cementing its reputation as a leader in the cruise industry.

    Future Outlook

With Sarson at the helm, Riviera is poised to further its reputation for excellence in product offerings. His leadership is anticipated to foster a culture of innovation and quality improvement.
