BA Cityflyer Announces Cessation of Service from London City Airport to Copenhagen

BA Cityflyer, an airline subsidiary of UK-based airline company, British Airways, will be ceasing to operate flights from London City Airport, in the UK, to Copenhagen, in Denmark.

The operation will terminate by the end of May 2012, and the airline will be preparing for its new routes and an expansion of existing services from the airport.

Confirming the cessation of service on the route by May 26, 2012, a company spokesperson said, ‘Despite our best efforts this route is just not successful and with no signs of improvement the decision was made to use the aircraft on a route where there is a commercial need.’

British Airways is offering new summer routes from London City Airport to Mahon in Menorca, Angers in France, and Quimper in Brittany, from May 2012.

The airline is also increasing the frequency of its Glasgow service from the airport, as well as new routes to Aberdeen, in Scotland; and Venice, In Italy, in the latter part of 2012.

Although British Airways has called a halt to the London City Airport route, the airline is still flying from London Heathrow Airport to Copenhagen, and flights to Copenhagen are also available from other UK airports, with Easyjet flying from Gatwick and Stansted airports; Norwegian airline flying from Gatwick Airport, and SAS from Heathrow airport.
