British Airways offers pre-order meals on long-haul flights from Gatwick

British Airways is introducing its popular pre-order meal service for customers on long-haul flights from Gatwick Airport.

The service, which was launched from Heathrow in 2014, allows customers to pre-order their main meal before they fly so they can have a meal of choice. The service is now available on direct long-haul flights from Gatwick for customers travelling in First, Club World and World Traveller Plus.

Troy Warfield, British Airways’ director of customer, said: ‘Our pre-order option from Heathrow has proved popular with customers as it means they’re always guaranteed their meal choice, so we’re pleased to be able to expand the service further to long-haul flights from Gatwick.

‘We know this kind of service is exactly what our customers want. It only takes a couple of minutes to do via the ‘manage my booking’ tab on ba.com and frees them up on board to concentrate on what they want or need to do, be that working or relaxing.’

The service comes as British Airways introduces new routes from Heathrow and Gatwick, which include San Jose starting from May 4, and Tehran starting July 14 and from Gatwick to Costa Rica, starting April 27, New York, starting May 1, Lima starting May 4 and Cape Town starting November 24.

The pre-order service is available on long-haul routes from Gatwick except in the case of indirect flights that go via another destination, which include Grenada, Providenciales (Turks and Caicos), Saint Kitts and Tobago, the airline said in a release.

Customers can select their meal between 24 hours and 30 days before their flight, using ‘manage my booking’ on ba.com.

British Airways has recently announced a range of servicing options and an additional payment option via the New Distribution Capability standard (NDC), IATA’s programme to improve communication between airlines and agents.
