easyJet adds 85,000 extra seats to Amsterdam and Barcelona from Luton, new flight to Zurich

easyJet, the UK-based low fares airline, has added 12 weekly summer flights from London Luton Airport to Amsterdam and Barcelona, and an extra daily flight to Zurich for next winter.

The budget airline has added an extra 85,000 seats between Luton and the Dutch and the Catalan Capitals, taking easyJet’s year round frequency to Barcelona to three flights a day, and up to six flights a day available between Luton and Amsterdam. With the addition, easyJet will carry almost three quarters of a million passengers a year on the two routes to and from Luton.

easyJet has also said that its plans to double its daily flights to Switzerland’s largest city, Zurich next winter.

easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager, Neil Slaven, said: ‘Amsterdam, Barcelona and Zurich are extremely popular connections from Luton and we’re therefore delighted to be able to cater for the extra demand. In doing so it enables us to continue our expansion at the Airport.

‘We have added a significant number of extra seats which allows us to continue to provide affordable, convenient connections for our customers whether they’re travelling on business or leisure.’

The announcement comes after easyJet representatives joined London Luton Airport management and the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin last month to mark the official launch of the £110m redevelopment of the airport. The airline expects strong growth at Luton and now has a network of over 51 routes served from the Airport, it said.

easyJet will base an additional four aircraft at Luton this year, bringing the total number of based aircraft to 19. The airline is expected to fly over six million passengers from the airport this year, an increase of 500,000 in the last 12 months.

One of Europe’s leading airlines, easyJet flies over 240 aircraft on more than 780 routes to over 130 airports across 32 countries. The airline carries over 68 million passengers annually, of which more than 12 million are travelling on business.
