Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have celebrated the launch of their first flight to Malta from Edinburgh Airport today, marking the beginning of a brand-new route for Summer 24.

The addition of the new route comes in response to demand from local customers and independent travel agents for Summer 24 flights and holidays. The inaugural flight on May 1 signals the start of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ operations to Malta from Edinburgh Airport until October 30, 2024.

With the introduction of weekly Wednesday services, holidaymakers in Scotland can now explore Malta’s historic towns, picturesque marinas, and the island’s Italian-inspired cuisine. Additionally, those heading over to Gozo will discover centuries-old architecture, stunning beaches, and shimmering lagoons.

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: ‘We are delighted to see our first flight to Malta take off from Edinburgh Airport today. Feedback from customers and independent travel agents in Scotland has been telling us that flights and holidays to Malta and Gozo are very much in demand for Summer 24, and we know that this is a destination that customers want to experience. Since putting services on sale to Malta from Edinburgh Airport, local customers and independent travel agents have been booking getaways to the stunning hotspot in their numbers. As the UK’s largest tour operator, we are giving customers and independent travel agents in the region unrivalled choice when it comes to enjoying a holiday this summer.’

Kate Sherry, Chief Commercial Officer (Aero) at Edinburgh Airport, said: ‘We always want to add destinations and routes where we can, to make sure people can get away and relax, and we’re sure our passengers will ha-Valetta fun on the island!

‘It’s great to see Malta added to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ already extensive programme from Scotland’s busiest airport and we are looking forward to another busy summer.’

Alan Borg, Malta International Airport Chief Executive Officer, said: ‘We are pleased to see Jet2.com and Jet2holidays expand its schedule for Malta, introducing an additional link between our airport and Scotland’s vibrant capital. This direct route to Edinburgh joins 9 other Jet2 routes to airports across the United Kingdom, which will continue to enhance Malta’s offering to our airport’s biggest tourism market throughout the summer months.’
