Birmingham Airport has announced the introduction of new routes on its Winter 2017/18 schedule, operated by Thomas Cook Airlines and Jet2.com.

Thomas Cook Airlines will operate a new route from Birmingham Airport to Cape Verde for winter 2017 for the first time. Flights from Birmingham to Cape Verde operate from November 2, 2017 until April 26, 2018 and are available from £139.00 one-way through www.thomascookairlines.com. The new route is now on sale along with the rest of the short and medium haul seat-only programme for next winter.

James Burrows, Aviation Director for Thomas Cook Airlines, said: ‘We’re so excited to carry on our growth at Birmingham. With the start of Comiso and Lesbos next summer and following our GBP100m cabin upgrade programme and launch of our pre-order duty free service, Airshoppen, we’re offering even more choice than ever for winter sun from Birmingham.’

William Pearson, Aviation Director from Birmingham Airport, added: ‘Cape Verde is growing in popularity with both sun seekers and those with holiday homes on this beautiful Island off the Coast of West Africa, so this new service is a welcome addition to our winter schedule.’

Separately, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have announced the launch of their first ever full winter flights and holidays programme for 2017/18, including seven new routes across winter sun destinations including Madeira – a brand new route; city breaks to Krakow and Prague, and ski destinations including Grenoble, Geneva, Salzburg, and Turin.

With over 255,000 seats to winter sun destinations, the programme also consists of frequent flights to popular winter sun destinations such as Alicante (five weekly flights), Malaga (three weekly flights) and Faro (three weekly flights). In addition, over 40,000 ski seats will be available on Jet2.com’s winter 17/18 programme from Birmingham Airport, including the new routes to Grenoble, Geneva, Salzburg and Turin.

Commenting on the new routes by Jet2.com, Pearson said: ‘As more and more people escape the winter and head for the sun, slopes or city break, we are delighted that our newest carrier, Jet2.com, has launched its winter 17/18 programme adding Madeira, Grenoble, Geneva, Salzburg, Turin, Krakow and Prague from Birmingham. These services are in addition to 15 sunshine routes starting when the carrier arrives at Birmingham for the first time in March 16, and shows confidence by the airline in the Midlands.’
