    • Brits are among the most generous holiday guests, with 59% of their reviews for short-term stays receiving 5 stars
    • This translates to 82,409 out of 139,677 reviews earning top marks, with an additional 27% rated 4-star
    • The analysis covered 1.25 million reviews from popular platforms like Airbnb and Booking.com

A new analysis of short-term rental reviews has highlighted where the world’s most generous guests come from – and UK travellers stand out as some of the most reliable, with 59% of their reviews being 5-star, reflecting both loyalty and a tendency to reward quality service.

The study, conducted by vacation rental software RentalReady, analysed reviews from platforms like Airbnb, Booking.com, and other popular rental sites, submitted between September 2022 and August 2024.

The study examined over 1.25 million reviews where the reviewer specified their nationality or home country. It looked at the frequency of 1- to 5-star ratings to determine which nationalities are most likely to award a property a 5-star review, identifying the most generous guests.

    Most Generous Guests:

    Saudi Arabia

According to the findings, guests from Saudi Arabia are the most generous guests when it comes to leaving a review for a holiday rental. The study identified that of the 12,707 reviews analysed as left by reviewers who identified as hailing from Saudi Arabia, an incredible 70% were 5-star – making up 8,895 of the reviews across the two years analysed.

    China

Ranking second among the most generous guests in the world are guests from China. The study identified that of the 6,125 reviews that were submitted across platforms by guests from China, 67% achieved 5 stars – equating to 4,104 5-star reviews left for holiday rentals in the last two years.

    United Arab Emirates

Guests from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also rank second on the list. The findings identified that 67% of the 11,419 reviews by guests from the UAE also awarded 5-star ratings across holiday accommodations, equalling China. This equates to a staggering 7,651 5-star reviews left by guests from the UAE on the platforms analysed.

    Russia

Following alongside guests from China and the UAE, the study found that guests from Russia were also identified to have left an impressive number of top marks across holiday accommodation reviews. Of the 5,735 reviews left by guests hailing from Russia, an impressive 3,842 or 67% awarded 5-star ratings.

    United States

According to the study, the United States is also among the five countries home to the most generous guests – with two-thirds (66%) of reviews receiving top marks. The study found that of the staggering 86,878 reviews which guests from the United States have left on holiday rentals over the 24-month period analysed, a huge 57,339 were rated 5-star.

“It is fascinating to see how guests from different countries rate their holiday experiences. What’s especially interesting is how positive the feedback is across the world – which is great news for both holiday-goers and holiday rental owners. The study shows that most guests have a fantastic time – with 5-star reviews being the most common across properties. This means guests can book with confidence and look forward to their holiday, knowing they’re in for a quality stay.”
