Donald Trump Inaugurates Golf Course in Scotland

Trump International Golf Links, a golf company owned by Donald Trump, has opened a new golf course in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

The new golf course, constructed at a cost of £750 million, is on a 500-hectare plot of land on the coast of Aberdeenshire. The 18-hole links golf course is located in the Menie Estate, along with a hotel, a collection of luxury holiday homes, and a residential village.

Sarah Malone, the executive vice-president of Trump International Golf Links Scotland, said, ‘We have several days of events and activities planned to mark the opening of Trump International Golf Links Scotland. Hundreds of guests will play our championship links course for the first time.’

Donald Trump has dedicated the golf course to the memory of his mother, who was born on the Isle of Lewis, in Scotland.

The course was recently inaugurated by Trump, who had invited a number of international players to experience the lavish setting, and it will be opening to the public on July 15, 2012.

After teeing off at the course, the former Ryder Cup captain, Colin Montgomerie, said in an interview with The Telegraph, ‘It makes me very proud to be a professional Scottish golfer today, to witness the opening of his fantastic course. On behalf of all the pros that are playing up in Inverness today, I can go back tomorrow to tell them how wonderful this site and this occasion is today.’

The location of the course has been controversial, and has gone ahead despite opposition from local residents, environmentalists and wind farm developers.
