France Scores High On Welcoming Visitors

A survey that set out to discover if visitors to France are made to feel welcome has provided some positive feedback for the French Tourism industry.

As part of their curriculum, students of the International Affairs programme at the Universite Paris Dauphine Contradict, have conducted a survey that asked foreign travellers for their comments on how they were dealt with when visiting France.

The survey has reported that around 85 percent of travellers polled feel that French people make them feel welcome, and around 80 percent of the respondents appreciate the kindness extended to them by French nationals.

While 99 percent of foreign travellers are charmed by the beauty of the French regions, 78 percent were satisfied with the cleanliness of public places, but only 59 percent felt that prices in France were acceptable.

At Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport, travellers’ perceptions improve as they travel across the terminals, especially on a first time visit. While Russians have the best opinion of the airport, English tourists are most critical of the airport, and of France in general.

The positive views of travellers following a stay in France were shown to be on the increase, with notable exceptions being Asian travellers, including Chinese and Indians, with their opinions becoming more negative during their entire stay. The favourable opinions of Chinese travellers declined by 10 percent as their stay went on, while those of Indian travellers went down by 5 percent.

The university students had collected the data by distributing a self-administered questionnaire to foreign travellers from six target nationalities, prepared in the respondent’s language, and distributed at the boarding area of the Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport.
