Park Plaza Hotels in London Offers Rooms for 2012 Olympics

Park Plaza Hotels, a brand from Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, has reported that rooms are available at its properties in London for the 2012 Olympics Games commencing in London, from July 27, 2012 until August 12, 2012.

The company owns five luxury hotels in London, the Park Plaza Victoria London, Park Plaza Riverbank London, Park Plaza Sherlock Holmes London, Park Plaza County Hall London, and Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London. The hotel brand is offering rooms for rates commencing from GBP329, for the 2012 Olympics period, without any stay restrictions.

Greg Hegarty, the regional general manager of the brand, said, ‘We know that many people have written off coming to London this summer after reports of over-inflated room prices, lack of availability and poor location but we’re hoping people will now reconsider and stay at one of our five centrally-located properties.’

Earlier in May 2012, Travelclick, a US-based company that offers ecommerce solutions for the global hotel industry, had reported that average hotel occupancy in London for the Olympic period was 55.4 percent, although room rates had increased by around 65 percent more than for the same period last year.

The London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) had earlier released around 12,000 hotel rooms held back for their use, making it possible to still book a room at an affordable price during the games.

While summer visitors to London averages around 1.5 million every year in August, the British Hospitality Association is estimating that around 294,000 additional visitors are expected to visit the city from abroad, and 587,000 from the UK itself, throughout the period that the games are taking place.
