In a noteworthy recovery, Secret Escapes Group has reported a return to operating profitability in 2023. This follows a challenging previous year with substantial losses.

The group’s financial turnaround was underpinned by increased demand for travel and strategic investments in member offerings and technology, demonstrating resilience in a competitive market.

Secret Escapes Group recorded an operating profit of £1.6 million in 2023, a significant improvement from the £14.8 million loss in 2022. Gross bookings rose by 19% reaching £523.8 million, while underlying revenue increased by 14% to £104.1 million.

These robust financial results were achieved despite various macroeconomic and geopolitical challenges, including extreme weather events in southern Europe.

Chief Executive Alex Saint attributed the success to targeted investments in the group’s member offer and proprietary technology. These investments enhanced the quality and pricing of travel experiences, making them more attractive to customers.

The company refined its exclusive offers, ensuring high-quality options available at the best prices, bolstering customer satisfaction and loyalty.

The travel sector experienced ‘robust’ demand throughout 2023, significantly propelled by post-Covid recovery trends.

Consumers displayed a shift towards prioritising experiences, with a notable emphasis on value due to ongoing cost-of-living pressures.

The demand for affordable travel persists, with customers exploring flexible travel times and new destinations.

Secret Escapes is well-positioned to capitalise on these trends across diverse geographies, maintaining its competitive edge.

Saint noted an encouraging start to 2024, indicating sustained demand and strategic alignment with market needs.

Secret Escapes Group has successfully navigated challenging market conditions to achieve a return to profitability, reflective of strategic vision and robust demand.
