Center Parcs is making a significant move with plans to open its first holiday village in Scotland.

    • The new resort will be located near Hawick in the Scottish Borders, marking a major investment in the region.
    • The development is expected to cost around £350 million and create approximately 1,200 local jobs.
    • Local communities anticipate economic growth and increased tourism from this initiative.
    • Center Parcs plans to collaborate closely with local suppliers and communities.

Center Parcs is set to establish its first holiday village in Scotland, which signifies a major expansion for the company. The new resort will be located near Hawick in the Scottish Borders, a strategic choice that underscores the company’s commitment to diversifying its locations. This development is not just a significant financial investment of around £350 million, but also a move expected to boost the local economy substantially.

David Hope-Jones, chief executive of The South of Scotland Destination Alliance, has welcomed this development, highlighting the substantial economic and community benefits it promises. ‘This will bring new visitors to the region, increase interest in the south of Scotland, and create significant economic benefits,’ he commented. With approximately 1,200 jobs anticipated during both the construction and operational phases, the project holds promise for local employment.

The initiative aligns with the region’s ongoing strategy to bolster its visitor economy. The South of Scotland’s 2024-34 responsible tourism strategy aims to increase jobs in the sector by 6,000 over the next decade. The Center Parcs project alone could achieve a fifth of this target, representing a substantial contribution to local economic goals.

Center Parcs has committed to sourcing local produce and engaging with local suppliers as part of their operational strategy. This includes utilising local food and drink and supporting community-focused initiatives through their community fund and charity endeavours. Such commitments highlight the company’s dedication to sustainability and local community development.

The potential influx of visitors to the new holiday village is expected to positively impact local tourism. It is anticipated that tourists will explore and spend in the surrounding areas, thereby enhancing the local economy. Hope-Jones emphasised the importance of integrating this development into local communities to ensure it complements the existing visitor economy.

This new venture by Center Parcs marks a promising development for both the company and the Scottish Borders region.
