Virgin Voyages alters Resilient Lady’s course due to Middle East unrest.
- The decision followed multiple attacks on international shipping in the region.
- Revised itinerary will take the ship around the African coast instead.
- Passengers and advisors assured of fare protection and commission safety.
- Increased security concerns prompt industry-wide route changes.
In a proactive response to escalating tensions in the Middle East, Virgin Voyages has modified the course of the Resilient Lady, originally scheduled to traverse the Red Sea and Suez Canal. This decision was driven by numerous attacks on international vessels by Yemeni-based Houthis, resulting in heightened security risks.
The repositioning voyage, initially planned for March 27, will now navigate around the African continent, touching base at destinations such as Eden, Fremantle, Mauritius, and Cape Town, among others. Despite the significant rerouting, the duration of the voyage remains unchanged at 43 nights.
Passengers booked on the initial legs of the journey have been reassured of their bookings on the revised route, maintaining price integrity. Additionally, they are offered flexible options including future voyage credits or full refunds if the new dates are unsuitable.
The cruise industry, under the spectre of geopolitical disturbances, sees Virgin Voyages among several companies adjusting sailings. Carnival Corporation, along with other major cruise lines, has also rerouted their fleets to ensure passenger safety.
Virgin Voyages has emphasised its commitment to protecting travel advisors’ commissions, ensuring partnership stability despite the unforeseen changes. The company’s priority remains the safety and security of both its passengers and crew.
The cruise industry’s swift adjustments underscore the complexities of operating in geopolitically sensitive regions.
