Upcoming engineering works on the west coast main line will lead to significant disruptions during the Easter period.

    • Euston station in London will close from March 29 to April 1, impacting travel between London and Scotland.
    • Network Rail encourages travellers to plan journeys around the Easter bank holiday to avoid delays.
    • Rail replacement buses and altered services will be in place across the North West due to essential maintenance.
    • Travellers are advised to prepare for longer wait times and check for updates on impacted routes.

Upcoming engineering works on the west coast main line are projected to cause substantial disruptions during the busy Easter holiday period. The closure of Euston station, a key hub in London for travellers heading to Scotland, will commence from March 29 until April 1. This closure means that intercity trains will begin and terminate at Milton Keynes instead of Euston.

Network Rail, the authority overseeing the rail infrastructure, has advised passengers to avoid travelling on this route over the Easter weekend if possible. Instead, it is recommended that journeys be arranged either before or after the bank holiday to minimise potential disruptions. This advice comes as Euston station, a vital part of the UK’s rail network, will be out of service, affecting numerous planned journeys.

In addition to the closure of Euston station, Network Rail has announced changes to services in the North West, where extensive maintenance and improvements are underway. As a result, rail replacement buses will operate on certain routes, adding to potential delays. Travellers are urged to verify their travel plans and routes ahead of time by visiting the National Rail website for the latest information.

Julia Lo Bue-Said, chief executive of the Advantage Travel Partnership, has expressed her concern regarding the anticipated disruptions. She emphasised the importance of preparation, advising travellers to allow additional time to reach their destinations, especially if catching a flight or ferry. Lo Bue-Said also highlighted the value of consulting travel agents for current advice and information relevant to their travels.

While efforts are being made to mitigate the impact of these disruptions, the expectation is that many travellers will face challenges during this period. It is crucial for individuals to stay informed about their travel options and any changes to their planned routes, ensuring a more manageable travel experience over the Easter weekend.

Anticipation of significant disruption during Easter travel necessitates thorough preparation and timely adaptation by travellers.
