    Explore Worldwide has successfully achieved B Corp certification, demonstrating a commitment to high standards of social and environmental performance. Key sustainability initiatives and targets highlight the company’s forward-thinking approach.

    • Despite progress, Explore’s absolute carbon footprint increased due to an increase in passenger numbers.

    Explore Worldwide has earned B Corp certification, showcasing its dedication to maintaining high standards of social and environmental performance, as well as transparency and accountability. This achievement signifies a pivotal step in the operator’s ongoing journey towards sustainable business practices.

    The company accomplished a 7% reduction in intensity carbon footprint per passenger night during the 2022-23 period. However, an increase in the number of passengers carried resulted in a rise in the absolute carbon footprint. This nuanced outcome underscores the complexity of balancing growth with environmental sustainability.

    To further address these challenges, Explore is implementing a range of initiatives. One notable measure is the introduction of a low carbon travel incentive for staff, encouraging employees to adopt greener travel habits. The company also aims to integrate more rail travel into their operations to minimise carbon emissions associated with business travel.

    Looking ahead, Explore has set an ambitious target, aiming for a 4.5% reduction in carbon emissions for the fiscal year 2023-24. Recognising the difficulty of meeting these targets, the organisation relies on its dedicated team and robust partnerships to drive progress towards these goals.

    Michael Edwards, Managing Director, expressed his enthusiasm for achieving B Corp status earlier than anticipated. He acknowledged the progress made but stressed the necessity of setting fresh, challenging targets for 2030 and beyond. In his words, “It’s on the industry to protect the future of our planet so that generations to come can benefit from the same adventures that we’ve had.”

    Explore Worldwide is taking significant steps towards sustainability, while recognising the ongoing challenges and the importance of future objectives.
