Explore’s Landmark Return to Tunisia After Nine Years

Explore is resuming tours to Tunisia this weekend, ending a hiatus since 2015.

    • The initial tour, part of the 2024 itinerary, is a 10-day adventure for 13 participants.
    • This move follows heightened demand, with Tunisia’s dormant listings reactivated post-2015 security concerns.
    • Eight further tours will occur this year, with 13 more scheduled for 2025.
    • The itinerary includes unique experiences like staying in a cave hotel and visiting Hammamet.

Explore’s operation of its first small group journey to Tunisia since 2015 marks a significant moment. The 10-day ‘Best of Tunisia’ trip, accommodating 13 participants, sets off as part of a series of new itineraries introduced for the North African nation in 2024.

The cessation of tours to Tunisia was initially due to security concerns following the 2015 Sousse terror attacks. Despite efforts to reintroduce these tours sooner, the pandemic caused additional delays, underscoring the complexity of global travel logistics.

This renewed focus on Tunisia by Explore is underscored by the rapid sell-out of the 2024 tours, with plans for 13 more in 2025 already underway. Antony Barton, Africa Product Manager, remarked on the growing interest, stating, ‘Tunisia is a destination that we’ve been asked a lot about in the last couple of years, and the demand is absolutely there.’

Tunisia’s reintroduction offers a diverse itinerary featuring Tunis, Tozeur, and Hammamet, along with a night in a cave hotel, providing a broad cultural and historical immersion. Barton emphasized the blend of ‘fascinating sites,’ ‘beautiful landscapes,’ and ‘warm hospitality,’ highlighting the appeal of local cuisine as an additional attraction.

This initiative reflects the broader trends in travel where cultural experiences and safety are paramount. Explore’s strategic re-entry into Tunisia highlights the dynamic nature of tourism where demand and geopolitical factors intersect.
