A former Fred Olsen Cruise Lines vessel has embarked on a transformative journey as it prepares to set sail under the new brand of Villa Vie Odyssey. This marks its transition into a residential global cruise operation by the innovative start-up, Villa Vie Residences. The ship is scheduled to navigate a comprehensive global itinerary, visiting over 420 ports across 147 countries on all seven continents, completed over a three and a half year period.
The ship is currently undergoing a ‘multi-million dollar’ refit in Belfast to enhance its capabilities for its new residential cruise role. With its unique flat hull designed for riverine and inland water navigation, the vessel has previously made history as the longest ever to pass through the Corinth Canal in 2019. This structural advantage promises enriched travel experiences, allowing access to waterways typically inaccessible to larger sea-going vessels.
Upon completion of the refurbishments, which encompass upgrades to all 480 cabins and the installation of a business centre and pickleball court, the ship will launch its inaugural cruise from Southampton on May 15. Pricing for this residential cruise lifestyle starts at $99,999 for the entire voyage, with options to rent accommodations when not on board. Alternatively, guests can opt for cost-efficient travel segments priced at $89 per person per day, offering flexibility with itinerary lengths spanning 35 to 120 days.
The chief executive of Villa Vie Residences, Mikael Petterson, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition and refitting of the vessel, describing it as a significant milestone in delivering unparalleled luxury and flexibility in residential cruising. ‘Villa Vie Odyssey will set a new standard for global exploration, offering residents an exceptional blend of opulence, immersive travel and personalised service,’ Petterson stated.
The cruise’s operational management is entrusted to Captain Jozo Glavic, who is no stranger to the ship, having been at the helm during its historical Corinth Canal manoeuvre. His expertise and familiarity with the vessel through its maintenance in the last three dry docks add a layer of assurance to its ambitious new venture.
Villa Vie Odyssey’s global journey promises to redefine residential cruising with its innovative itinerary and luxurious accommodations.
