Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings steps up with a $50,000 donation to aid flood recovery in Juneau, Alaska, following devastating glacial flooding.

    • Released water from the Mendenhall Glacier inundated homes and roads, marking the worst flooding in Juneau’s history.
    • The donation is directed at providing urgent financial assistance to over 100 affected families to aid recovery.
    • Governor Mike Dunleavy declared a disaster, activating state funds to support impacted residents, though thankfully, no injuries were reported.
    • Statements from NCL executives underscore their commitment to the Juneau community, emphasising a deep connection and responsibility.

Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings has recently announced a significant donation of $50,000 aimed at supporting recovery initiatives in Juneau, Alaska. This contribution comes in the wake of catastrophic flooding caused by the release of water from the Mendenhall Glacier, which led to extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.

The event, labelled as the worst flood ever recorded in Juneau’s history, left many homes under water, displacing numerous residents in its wake. With roads inundated and communities severely affected, the need for immediate financial assistance has been paramount.

Governor Mike Dunleavy responded to the crisis by issuing a disaster declaration. This declaration facilitated the activation of state disaster funds, primed to support local residents stricken by the flood, which remarkably resulted in no reported injuries.

NCLH’s donation forms part of a larger effort to support more than 100 families impacted by the disaster. Dan Farkas, NCLH executive vice president, general counsel, and chief development officer, expressed a sincere commitment to Juneau, stating, “We are deeply connected to the Juneau community, and witnessing the devastation from the recent flood has been heart-wrenching.” He further elaborated that Juneau is not merely a destination but a community with which the company has developed a profound bond.

Amy Skilbred, executive director of the Juneau Community Foundation, acknowledged the importance of this donation in facilitating swift recovery efforts. “We are grateful for NCLH’s generous donation, which will play a crucial role in helping our community recover from this disaster,” she noted. This funding is set to expedite financial aid distribution to residents striving to rebuild their homes and lives.

The donation by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings exemplifies corporate commitment to community welfare in times of crisis.
