The launch of the Norwegian Aqua marks a significant milestone for Norwegian Cruise Line.

    • This new ship is part of the expanded Prima Plus class, offering a 10% increase in size over previous vessels.
    • The vessel, built at Fincantieri yard in Italy, will debut with innovative features like the Aqua Slidecoaster and Glow Court.
    • The ship is set to sail from April 2025, initially operating in the Caribbean and then from New York City to Bermuda.
    • NCL leaders celebrate the advancements and flexibility the new design offers their guests.

The float out of Norwegian Aqua heralds a major step forward for Norwegian Cruise Line. This marked the completion of the external construction of the 156,300 gross tonnage vessel at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy, preparing it for its maiden voyage scheduled for April 2025. The ship is the first of the newly expanded Prima Plus class and boasts a 10% increase in size from its predecessors in the Prima class.

Among the ship’s standout features is the introduction of the Aqua Slidecoaster, which is hailed as the world’s first hybrid rollercoaster and waterslide. Additionally, Norwegian Aqua will feature the Glow Court, a digital sports complex including an interactive LED floor, and the largest 360-degree Ocean Boulevard promenade ever seen in the fleet. The addition of NCL’s first three-bedroom duplex Haven suites signifies a leap in luxury accommodations offered on board.

The vessel promises an exciting deployment, commencing with seven-day Caribbean itineraries departing from Port Canaveral, Florida. Between August and October 2025, Norwegian Aqua will transition to five and seven-day sailings from New York City to Bermuda, before returning for a winter season of Caribbean cruises from Miami, lasting until April 2026.

The ship and its innovations were celebrated by NCL president David Herrera who remarked, “We are excited to celebrate another milestone with our partners at Fincantieri, who are integral to the Prima Class journey and supporting us in evolving the amazing experience we design and deliver for our guests.” He further highlighted that the additional space offers increased flexibility, allowing Norwegian Cruise Line to introduce more engaging venues and experiences.

Mark Kansley, senior vice president of Hotel Operations, emphasised the evolution of the Prima class, noting, “We hear from our guests following every cruise, and they appreciate the intimate nature and greater variety of elevated spaces throughout the ship for them to relax in or explore while on vacation.” His comments underscore the company’s commitment to enhancing the passenger experience with its innovative design and thoughtful amenities.

The Norwegian Aqua represents a pivotal advancement in cruise ship design, promising a groundbreaking experience for its passengers.
