Pura Aventura, a renowned travel company, has successfully re-certified as a B Corp with a significant improvement in its score.

    • The company’s score has increased by almost 20% over three years, reflecting its ongoing commitment to responsible travel.
    • Pura Aventura donates 1% of its revenues and offsets 160% of holiday carbon emissions, showcasing its dedication to environmental impact.
    • The firm co-founded Travel by B Corp, a collective promoting travel as a force for good, and has grown to 26 members.
    • Co-founder Thomas Power expresses satisfaction with the score improvement and aims to surpass 100 points in the next recertification.

Pura Aventura, a leader in responsible travel to Latin America, Spain, and Portugal, has once again been certified as a B Corp, marking a significant achievement. This re-certification indicates an advancement in their commitment, as evidenced by a nearly 20% increase in their score to 96.3, up from the initial score of 81.2. Such an improvement demonstrates Pura Aventura’s successful integration of profit with social and environmental responsibilities.

In keeping with its commitment to sustainability, Pura Aventura has been donating 1% of its revenues to worthy causes since 2019. Moreover, the company offsets 160% of the carbon emissions from its holidays, further emphasizing its dedication to reducing environmental impacts. These actions underscore Pura Aventura’s forward-thinking approach to balancing business success with ecological and social responsibility.

An important facet of Pura Aventura’s strategy is its role in the foundation of Travel by B Corp, in partnership with Intrepid. This initiative started with a few companies but has now expanded to include 26 like-minded entities. Through this collective, Pura Aventura advocates for using travel as a genuine force for good, highlighting its commitment to wider industry collaboration and community engagement.

Thomas Power, co-founder and chief executive of Pura Aventura, expressed his elation over the enhanced B Corp rating: “We are over the moon with the news that we have improved our B Corp score.” Power notes the significance of every incremental point in the B Corp assessment, illustrating the dedication required to achieve such a milestone. His ambition to exceed a score of 100 in the forthcoming certification reflects the company’s ongoing pursuit of excellence.

Reflecting on the company’s journey, Power acknowledged the challenges faced during the COVID pandemic when the decision to pursue B Corp certification was made. He explains that the move was driven by a desire to create a lasting environmental legacy. Power stated, “This is not about building our business around B Corp; it is about building our business around values which we share with the B Corp movement.”

Pura Aventura’s enhanced B Corp certification underscores its steadfast commitment to socially and environmentally responsible travel.
