In response to last summer’s devastating wildfires in Rhodes, the Greek Ministry of Tourism is extending a gesture of goodwill to those affected.

    • Holidaymakers evacuated from hotels during the forest fires are eligible for complementary stays in Rhodes this spring or autumn.
    • The ‘Rodos Week’ initiative offers six-night stays for eligible individuals between April 10 and May 31, or between October 10 and November 15.
    • Participating hotels will provide accommodations similar in category and room type to those originally booked during the 2023 fires.
    • Eligible evacuees must apply for e-vouchers through a digital process, with verification required from their original hotels and tour operators.

The Greek Ministry of Tourism has initiated a programme to offer free stays to holidaymakers who were evacuated from their hotels due to wildfires in Rhodes last summer. This initiative, named ‘Rodos Week’, allows those affected to return to the island for a complimentary six-night stay.

The programme aims to accommodate evacuees this spring or autumn. Eligible individuals can choose to visit between April 10 and May 31 or from October 10 until November 15. The goal is to provide a similar experience to that which they missed last year, in hotels matching the category and room type they originally booked.

A digital application process has been established to facilitate this offer. E-vouchers, essential for securing the free accommodation, will be issued after verification of the applicants’ details. The details for verification are to be provided by the hotels and tour operators involved in the original bookings.

Those who were affected but do not appear on the official list need to apply by April 4, furnishing proof of their previous booking from travel agents. This step is critical to ensure all genuine claims are honoured appropriately.

The effort, according to the national tourism body, seeks to welcome back tourists who endured the inconvenience of evacuation, reflecting a commitment to hospitality and customer care despite the challenges faced during the fires.

This initiative underscores the resilient spirit of the Greek tourism sector, highlighting its dedication to restoration and visitor satisfaction.
