The influx of UK tourists to Turkey has reached unprecedented levels, reshaping the tourism landscape. With a 13% rise in British visitors, Turkey’s appeal is on the upswing.

    • This growth has led to a substantial increase in Turkey’s tourism income, with the country earning £42.4 billion last year.
    • Average visitor spending per night has climbed to £78, underscoring the country’s attractiveness to international tourists.
    • Turkey welcomed 56.7 million international tourists in 2023, underpinning its status as a global travel powerhouse.
    • The Turkish Tourism Board emphasises a commitment to further growth, celebrating their cultural and scenic diversity.

In 2023, Turkey witnessed a remarkable surge in UK tourist numbers, climbing almost 13% compared to the previous year, totalling 3.8 million British visitors. This marked a significant achievement for Turkey, solidifying its reputation as a preferred travel destination for the UK market.

The overall influx of international tourists reached 56.7 million, representing a year-on-year growth of 10%. This broad appeal has led Turkey to be considered a major player in the global tourism market. Consequently, Turkey’s tourism revenue saw an impressive 17% boost, reaching £42.4 billion in 2023.

The financial impact of this tourism boom is evident in the increased average expenditure per night by visitors, now standing at £78. This upward trend reflects Turkey’s ability to attract spending tourists and its strategic focus on enhancing visitor experiences.

A spokesperson from the Turkish Tourism Board in the UK remarked on this success by praising Turkey’s position as the obvious choice for UK travellers, owing to its unique blend of rich cultural heritage and stunning landscapes. They are optimistic about maintaining this growth trajectory into 2024, reinforcing Turkey’s global tourism standing.
