Sandals Resorts’ team undertakes a challenging 50-mile adventure in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines this autumn, aimed at benefiting Caribbean children, especially premature infants.
- The journey includes a half marathon on Bequia, multiple 15km runs, 22km of sea kayaking, and a hike up La Soufrière’s active volcano.
- The team hopes to equal last year’s £100,000 donation achieved through a 100km run in Antigua, supporting Caribbean paediatric healthcare needs.
- Funds raised will benefit the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, improving care for high-risk premature infants, particularly under 28 weeks.
- Following Hurricane Beryl, part of the proceeds will also fund critical repairs and new medical equipment for Southern Grenadine islands.
In a forthcoming effort to aid Caribbean children, Sandals Resorts’ team is set to embark on a rigorous 50-mile challenge across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This endeavour is expected to extend support to premature babies and beyond. The challenge comprises diverse events, including a half marathon around Bequia, several 15km runs, 22km of sea kayaking, culminating in an arduous climb to La Soufrière’s summit.
Furthermore, the team aspires to replicate the notable success of last year’s event in Antigua, where £100,000 was raised for beneficiaries of the Sandals Foundation. Karl Thompson, managing director of Unique Vacations UK Ltd, conveyed both his apprehension and eagerness about the upcoming ‘Island Challenge – Saint Vincent 2024’. He remarked on the significance of supporting Caribbean communities, emphasizing the impact of these charitable initiatives.
The funds generated will primarily target enhancing paediatric healthcare services in Saint Vincent, particularly at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital. This allocation will be instrumental in acquiring vital equipment to support the delicate care of premature infants under 28 weeks’ gestation, a group especially at risk.
The challenge’s financial proceeds aim to extend beyond immediate medical necessities. Following the devastating Hurricane Beryl, the challenge will allocate resources towards repairs and acquiring new medical equipment in the Southern Grenadine islands, where it is most needed. This effort underscores Sandals Resorts’ commitment to sustained community support and infrastructure rebuilding.
Reflecting on the success of last year’s event, Heidi Clarke, executive director of the Sandals Foundation, expressed her optimism and gratitude. She noted the unmatched dedication from participants and supporters, expressing her anticipation for this year’s achievements in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Sandals Resorts team is set for another significant impact with their upcoming challenge, supporting vital healthcare services and community rebuilding efforts in the Caribbean.
