UK tourists visiting Turkey increased by 19% in the first half of 2024.

    • The rise contributed to 1.8 million UK visitors exploring Turkey.
    • Overall international arrivals in Turkey rose by nearly 14% in the same period.
    • Tourism revenue in Turkey grew, with an impressive daily expenditure per visitor.
    • Russia remained the leading source market for Turkey’s tourism sector.

The number of UK tourists travelling to Turkey saw a significant increase of 19% in the first six months of 2024. This upward trend brought the total count of UK visitors to almost 1.8 million, reinforcing the UK’s position as Turkey’s third largest source market. Such an increase highlights Turkey’s growing appeal among British holidaymakers.

Overall, Turkey experienced a nearly 14% rise in international tourist arrivals during the same timeframe, reaching 26.1 million visitors. This growth in tourism activity has been reflected in the substantial revenues generated.

Turkey’s tourism revenue rose by 9.3% during this period, arriving at £18.5 billion. Visitors’ average daily expenditure reached £76, illustrating the value tourists bring to the economy.

Despite ongoing global tensions, Russia retained its position as Turkey’s largest source market. More than 2.7 million Russian tourists visited Turkey in the first half of 2024, despite the ongoing conflict involving Ukraine. Germany was not far behind, with over 2.5 million visitors, indicating Turkey’s broad international allure.

The tourism minister, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, expressed confidence in meeting the annual goals of 60 million visitors and £47 billion in revenue, reflecting Turkey’s strategic focus and commitment to expanding its tourism industry.
