Virgin Voyages has decided to cancel its second season in Australia due to transit safety concerns in the Red Sea region.

    • The cruise line’s decision follows recent attacks in the area, impacting their itinerary for the Resilient Lady ship.
    • Safety risks associated with the Red Sea transit have been deemed unacceptable by Virgin Voyages.
    • The Resilient Lady will now operate in the Caribbean, offering alternative routes and experiences.
    • Impacted passengers have options for rebooking or refunds, with a commitment to ensuring their travel plans are secure.

In a recent development, Virgin Voyages has announced the cancellation of its second season of sailings in Australia. This decision comes amid heightened safety concerns over the transit of the Red Sea, a region where recent conflicts have posed a significant risk to shipping activities. The cruise line expressed that the safety of its sailors, crew, and vessels was paramount, stating that the current situation in the Red Sea and surrounding areas presents unacceptable risks.

The Resilient Lady, which was initially scheduled to sail from Australia, will now pivot to the Caribbean. This strategic shift follows a diversion from the ship’s original repositioning cruise, which avoided the Red Sea and Suez Canal due to the potential hazards involved. The cruise line has noted that these adjustments are intended to minimise disruption to passengers’ holiday plans and provide them with alternative travel options.

Passengers affected by this change are offered the flexibility to rebook other voyages or opt for full refunds. The cruise line is committed to ensuring that customers and travel agents have ample time to adjust their plans accordingly. The Resilient Lady will continue its operations in the Mediterranean before transitioning to new Caribbean routes starting in San Juan. These new itineraries will include attractive destinations such as St Maarten, St Vincent, Colombia, and Dominica.

Virgin Voyages has emphasised that their relationship with the Australian and New Zealand markets remains strong, describing their inaugural season in the region as incredibly successful. The decision to cancel the Australia season was not made lightly and reflects a deep commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.

The cruise line is exploring opportunities to return to the Asia Pacific region when conditions improve. Meanwhile, Virgin Voyages remains hopeful for a positive experience for their travellers in Europe, where two ships operate from ports in Barcelona, Athens, and Portsmouth. The company assures customers of their continued focus on safety and fulfilling travel experiences.

Virgin Voyages prioritises passenger safety, adapting its routes in light of regional conflicts to ensure secure and enjoyable travel experiences.
