Royal Caribbean Labadee Repricing Catches Passengers Off Guard With $1,000 Invoice Hike

Royal Caribbean Labadee repricing errors are prompting passengers to scrutinise their booking invoices after one guest reported an unexpected increase of nearly $1,000 following an itinerary change on a Freedom of the Seas sailing. The incident has surfaced in Royal Caribbean’s Reddit community, where affected travellers are comparing notes on altered bookings.

How the Royal Caribbean Labadee Repricing Appeared

The passenger, sailing on the Freedom of the Seas departure of 6 March, was notified that the scheduled Labadee, Haiti stop had been replaced by Perfect Day at CocoCay. The itinerary swap itself was not contested. What followed was. Shortly after Royal Caribbean processed the change, the passenger received what presented as a new booking invoice, with a base fare running almost $1,000 above the original price.

When the passenger contacted customer service, they were told the difference was not a fuel surcharge or additional port fees. The booking had, apparently, been repriced at the current market rate, with the promotional discounts attached to the original reservation stripped out. Customer service ultimately corrected the fare, but the passenger posted on Reddit on 23 July under the heading ‘Be sure to check your account,’ warning fellow guests to do exactly that.

A commenter in the thread, claiming to be a travel adviser, suggested Royal Caribbean‘s reservation system may temporarily classify an altered booking as a new one while large batches of itinerary changes are being processed in bulk. The advice offered was to allow the system a few days to update before calling customer care.

A Wider Pattern Across Labadee Sailings

This is not an isolated case. In May, another Reddit post described a Royal Caribbean-initiated itinerary change that appeared to push the price of a five-night cruise from roughly $3,000 to $5,000. Commenters on that thread similarly concluded the spike was a system error and that the passenger would not be held to the higher amount. It is not clear whether every itinerary change triggers a similar repricing problem: several passengers have specifically reported that their balances remained unchanged after Labadee was swapped out.

Other travellers in the July thread confirmed they had already received revised sailings. One reported a January cruise moved from Haiti to Grand Turk, with finances intact. Another said a February sailing was changed from Haiti and Jamaica to Nassau and Puerto Plata. Replacement destinations have included Nassau, Grand Turk, CocoCay, Puerto Plata, Cozumel, and additional sea days, depending on the voyage.

The cascade of changes follows Royal Caribbean’s confirmation in July that its suspension of calls at Labadee, its private destination on Haiti’s northern coast, would extend through June 2027. Ships have not made scheduled calls at Labadee since April 2025. ‘This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our guests and crew members in mind,’ a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said.

    Security Context Behind the Suspension

The decision sits against a backdrop of deteriorating conditions in Haiti. According to Fox News, Haiti is currently under a Level 4 ‘Do Not Travel’ advisory from the U.S. State Department, the highest designation issued. Separately, USA Today has reported that the U.S. Coast Guard has raised concerns about security in Haitian ports. Royal Caribbean reached out to TheTravel for comment on Labadee itinerary changes was awaiting a response at the time of publication.

Labadee has historically been one of the cruise line’s more popular private destinations, featuring attractions including the Dragon’s Breath Flight Line, described by Fox News as one of the world’s longest over-water ziplines. The extended closure therefore affects a substantial portion of Caribbean itinerary planning for the line’s fleet through next year.

What Agents and Passengers Should Do Now

For travel agents managing clients on affected sailings, the immediate priority is to pull original booking confirmations before any itinerary change is processed and compare them against revised invoices line by line. The check should cover the base cruise fare, promotional credits and discounts, taxes and fees, and the total booking price. A new invoice may legitimately reflect some updated port charges, but a large unexplained fare increase warrants a prompt call to Royal Caribbean’s trade or consumer customer service.

Passengers booking directly should follow the same logic: save every confirmation email as a PDF at the point of booking, and cross-reference it against any new invoice triggered by an itinerary modification. In the case reported on Reddit, the passenger’s original promotional rate was restorable once the discrepancy was flagged, suggesting the issue is recoverable when caught early. The key is catching it before assuming the new figure is correct.
