    SPAA Recognises Travel Excellence with 2024 Annual Awards

    In Glasgow, the Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association honoured top travel industry performers at its annual awards, marking another milestone in travel excellence. Amid a glittering ceremony, agencies and suppliers received due accolades. The event underscores the importance of recognising dedication and innovation across the travel sector.

    The awards night celebrated unsurpassed achievements from various segments, including tour operators, cruise companies, and airlines, reflecting a commitment to service and excellence. Attendees praised the event’s role in fostering competitive spirit and setting benchmarks in the industry, further highlighting significant contributions from individuals and organisations alike.

    The Scottish Passenger Agents’ Association (SPAA) recently hosted its annual awards ceremony, an event keenly anticipated by industry professionals. Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Glasgow, the gala was a sell-out with 680 guests in attendance. This grand occasion celebrated exceptional contributions in the travel sector, recognising both agencies and suppliers, all decided through votes from agent and supplier partners.     At the awards, distinct categories aimed to highlight different aspects of the travel industry. For suppliers, the categories spanned companies specialising in mainstream and specialist holidays, cruise, air travel, hotels, and individual representatives. The agency awards celebrated both large and small-scale operations, including leisure agencies and honouring a dedicated ‘homeworker of the year’.     The Holiday Awards saw Newmarket Holidays receive the title of ‘Specialist Tour Operator of the Year’. Other significant recognitions included ‘Luxury Tour Operator of the Year’ awarded to If Only, and ‘Touring & Adventure Operator of the Year’ to Newmarket Holidays again. Inghams was recognised as the ‘Ski Company of the Year’. Amongst others, Jet2holidays and Gold Medal were honoured as the leaders in short-haul and long-haul travel, respectively. These accolades reflect each company’s dedication to providing unforgettable holiday experiences tailored to their clients’ needs.

    The cruise industry was well-represented in the awards. Royal Caribbean was named the ‘Mainstream Cruise Company of the Year’, lauded for its innovative approaches and outstanding service. Simultaneously, Celebrity Cruises took the spotlight as ‘Premium Cruise Company of the Year’. Silversea Cruises earned the title of ‘Luxury Cruise Company of the Year’, while Azamara Cruises and Riviera Travel excelled in their respective categories of specialist and river cruises. Ferry services were not overlooked, with DFDS securing the title of ‘Ferry Company of the Year’ for its consistent excellence and reliability in operations.

    Accommodation and Travel Essentials

    In the hotels and holidays essentials categories, Bedsonline was recognised as the ‘Accommodation-only Supplier of the Year’. Iberostar took home the award for ‘Hotel & Resort Operator of the Year’, reflecting their extensive offerings in unique and luxurious accommodations. Jet2CityBreaks was awarded ‘European City Break Operator of the Year’, while DoSomethingDifferent.com and LNER were recognised for their roles in holiday essentials and rail services, respectively. These awards underline the critical role these companies play in enhancing travel experiences through superior service and innovative offerings.

    The awards in these categories underscore the importance of tailored and easily accessible travel solutions, enhancing the overall customer journey. European operations were led by Jet2.com, while Virgin Atlantic took the honour for transatlantic journeys, showcasing their influence across the Atlantic. Emirates, recognised for their global reach and quality service, was named ‘Worldwide Airline of the Year’.
