British Airways has recently announced the addition of Lapland to its winter flight schedule.
Starting December 3, 2024, British Airways will offer twice-weekly flights from London Gatwick to Ivalo, the northernmost airport in Finland.
Ivalo, located in the Arctic Circle, is a charming village on the Ivalo River. It serves as the gateway to Saariselka, a popular resort destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy activities such as skiing, snowmobile safaris, toboggan rides, and snowshoeing. Ivalo is also renowned for its breathtaking views of the northern lights and offers the unique opportunity to visit Santa Claus at the Northern Lights Village in Saariselka.
The new service will depart from London Gatwick (LGW) to Ivalo (IVL) twice weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays, operated by an A320 aircraft. Flight BA2860 departs LGW at 08:35 and arrives in IVL at 14:30, while the return flight BA2861 departs IVL at 15:30 and arrives back in LGW at 17:30. The flights are available to book at www.ba.com.
Tom Stoddart, CEO of BA Euroflyer, stated, ‘Our BA Euroflyer network continues to grow, and we are excited to add Ivalo to our winter schedule alongside other winter destinations like Innsbruck and Geneva. Lapland is synonymous with winter, and Ivalo offers a picturesque white Christmas experience with a touch of British Airways’ red and blue.’
Customers traveling to Ivalo with British Airways’ short-haul subsidiary, BA Euroflyer, can include skiing or snowboarding equipment in their checked baggage, provided the dimensions do not exceed 190 x 75 x 65 cm.
In addition to Ivalo, British Airways has announced new flights to Tromso, Norway, starting from London Heathrow this December. Return flights to Ivalo are available now from £345 and will operate until February 14, 2025.
British Airways has also introduced new daily flights to Larnaca, Cyprus, starting November 4, 2024. These flights, departing from London Gatwick in the morning and returning in the late afternoon, will be available throughout the winter season. Saturday flights to Larnaca will operate for the first five weeks only.
