Irish low fares airline, Ryanair has commenced services from Newcastle International to Cork, marking the beginning of the service between the two cities.

The twice weekly service, which operates Fridays and Sundays throughout winter, is well scheduled for a weekend city break or a long holiday retreat. Ireland’s 2nd largest city, Cork is located near the southern coast of Ireland and is surrounded by colourful towns with rugged views. Cork is popular for its idyllic riverside walks and is considered the foodie capital of Ireland.

Richard Knight, Chief Operating Officer at Newcastle International said: ‘Ryanair have made significant investments at Newcastle International Airport providing a great choice of destinations to the North East public including Milan, Riga, Barcelona and now Cork for the winter season. Cork’s bustling centre is a fantastic destination for city breaks and as well as a perfect starting point for Ireland’s spectacular Wild Atlantic Way coastal driving route. We are excited for the opportunities that this route opens up, not only for North East passengers exploring Ireland, but also for passengers arriving into Newcastle to visit the beautiful North East of England.’

Acting Managing Director at Cork Airport, Roy O’Driscoll, said: Over the course of the winter season, we look forward to welcoming passengers from the north-east of England – from places like Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland, Durham and the surrounding areas, travelling to Cork on the new Ryanair service linking our two regions. Cork offers the quintessential Irish city break experience, with some of the most spectacular scenery in Ireland, a thriving food scene and hotels, restaurants and pubs that are renowned for their world-class hospitality. In return, we hope that passengers from the wider Cork region will take the opportunity to visit Newcastle and north-east England to immerse themselves amongst the regions famed history, cultural attractions, sporting venues and vibrant nightlife.’
