In the bustling streets of Hanoi, Vietnam, there stands a house that has caught the attention of architects and design enthusiasts alike. At just 4 meters wide, this narrow house is defying expectations and showing how ingenuity can transform even the most challenging spaces. Designed by ODDO Architects, this five-story home is not only a marvel of modern architecture but also a symbol of how innovative design can make the most out of a tiny plot of land.

A Narrow Home with Big Surprises

Vietnam is no stranger to narrow homes. Due to the high cost of land, many homeowners opt to build vertically rather than horizontally, maximizing limited space in dense urban areas. This specific house in Hanoi is a prime example of this architectural trend, where space is often at a premium. With a width of just 4 meters and five stories, this home challenges the conventional idea of what a narrow home can be.

Architect Marek Obtulovic, who worked on the project, explained the unique challenges they faced. “We had to build upwards so that every member of the family—four people, including two young children—could have their own private space,” he shared. And that’s exactly what they did. By stacking the living spaces efficiently, the architects managed to create a home that feels surprisingly spacious despite its narrow width.

    Clever Design and Smart Layout

The design of this 4-meter-wide home is as functional as it is aesthetically pleasing. The main entrance leads directly into the kitchen, while the dining area is located on the first floor. The living room sits on the third floor, sandwiched between the master bedroom on the second and the children’s room on the fourth. Finally, the top floor holds a small prayer room, offering a peaceful retreat for the family.

In terms of decor, the design embraces minimalism. Natural materials like wood are used throughout, and the addition of plants adds a touch of greenery and life to each floor. The result is a clean, serene environment that feels open and welcoming—an impressive feat for such a narrow space.

This house shows that with the right planning, even the smallest of spaces can be transformed into a functional and stylish home. It’s a perfect example of how creative architecture and thoughtful design can solve urban living challenges, all while maintaining a sense of warmth and comfort for its residents.

It’s easy to see why this remarkable house has turned heads around the world.
