Silversea Cruises has reached a significant milestone with the keel laying ceremony for Silver Ray, marking a pivotal step in the ship’s construction.

The event, held at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, saw the attendance of travel agents and highlighted the advancements in cruise ship design and sustainability.

The keel laying ceremony is a symbolic and fundamental stage in shipbuilding, signifying the beginning of the ship’s assembly. Silver Ray, the second vessel in Silversea’s Nova class, is expected to redefine luxury cruising. The ship is designed to accommodate 728 guests and will be operational by summer 2024. This event represents a monumental step forward in the innovative Nova class series.

Silversea’s commitment to sustainability is further demonstrated through its Nova class ships. The line continues to innovate in environmental standards by introducing this asymmetrical and highly efficient design. The space within the ships is utilised to maximise comfort and minimise environmental impact.

Jan Meyer, Meyer Werft’s Managing Director, added, “The Nova class will set new standards on the way to net zero emissions cruising.” His comments underscore the shipyard’s role in pushing the boundaries of cruise ship technology.

Industry experts are closely watching Silversea’s developments, recognising the Nova class as a benchmark for future luxury cruise ships. The ship’s anticipated launch is awaited eagerly by potential guests and industry professionals alike.

This collaboration highlights the interconnected nature of the cruise industry, where partnerships drive progress and innovation. Silversea and Meyer Werft’s combined efforts are paving the way for future projects that promise even greater advancements.
