Alfa Travel, a prominent domestic coach tour operator, has made notable strides in expanding its hotel offerings in the UK. The acquisition of the Royal Hotel in Weymouth and the Waverley Castle Hotel in Melrose, Scotland, marks a significant enhancement to its portfolio. With these additions, Alfa Travel now manages a total of 24 hotels across the UK under the Alfa Leisureplex Group.
The strategic focus of these acquisitions is to cater to solo travellers, an increasingly important market segment. The two hotels offer a combined total of 38 single rooms at no additional cost, addressing a long-standing request from Alfa Travel’s customer base. This move aligns with the company’s commitment to providing value-for-money coach holidays.
The recent acquisition follows the purchase of the Norfolk Royale Hotel in Bournemouth, illustrating Alfa Travel’s ongoing expansion across diverse UK destinations. According to Emma Russell, Managing Director of the Alfa Leisureplex Group, the group is committed to delivering outstanding quality and value through its multimillion-pound refurbishment initiatives and expansion of its Mercedes touring fleet.
Emma Russell stated, “Our customers have been requesting that we offer a Leisureplex hotel in Weymouth for a number of years, so it is great that we can finally fulfil this wish with the purchase of one of the finest hotels in Weymouth.” This acquisition not only meets customer demand but also strengthens the group’s market position.
Furthermore, Alfa Travel’s parent company, the employee-owned Alfa Leisureplex Group, acquired the Scottish coach operator David Urquhart Travel in 2020. This acquisition has now been rebranded as Alfa Travel Scotland, highlighting the group’s strategic integration plans and reinforcing its presence in the Scottish market.
The group’s ambitious plans are not limited to hotel acquisitions. In December, it announced intentions to bolster its trade sales and develop agent relationships, particularly in Scotland, as part of its broader growth and development strategy.
Alfa Travel’s strategic acquisitions and investments in infrastructure underscore its commitment to enhancing travel experiences and expanding its market footprint.
