Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have swiftly responded to long-standing demand by launching operations from Bournemouth, marking a significant milestone for the company.

The announcement of new flights sparked strong interest and enthusiasm among travellers and agents, reflecting a robust appetite for international travel offerings.

    Bournemouth Welcomes Jet2

In less than a month since its announcement, the response to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ new base in Bournemouth has been described as ‘truly phenomenal’ by the companies’ executives. They reported a surge in bookings, marking a promising start to their operations in this region. The company noted, ‘Customers and travel agents are booking flights and holidays for 2025 in droves.’

Sales commenced on 26th March for 16 destinations spanning Europe, the Canary Islands, and the Mediterranean. This strategic move from Jet2 comes in response to ‘years of demand’ from potential flyers in Bournemouth and surrounding areas like Southampton and Portsmouth. The airlines experienced a strong and sustained demand for their services, with flights already booked in high numbers.

    Significant Demand in Key Destinations

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have identified the top-performing destinations from Bournemouth as Antalya, Tenerife, Dalaman, Majorca, and Rhodes. These locations have seen particularly strong sales, indicating a high demand for travel to these Mediterranean hotspots.

The introduction of flights from Bournemouth is set to include up to 27 weekly flights. This will cover popular locations across the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Turkey, Greece, as well as mainland Spain, Portugal, and Madeira. The airlines have exclusive routes to destinations like Fuerteventura and Madeira from this new base.

    Operational Ambitions

With the new operations, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays aim to capitalise on the regional demand for international travel. Initial projections suggest a prosperous season ahead for the airline.

In the first summer of operations at Bournemouth, they plan to operate multiple weekly flights to cater to the varying needs of travellers. This significant increase in operations aims to meet the ‘pent-up demand’ from Bournemouth and the surrounding areas.

    Job Creation and Economic Impact

The advent of Jet2’s operations at Bournemouth airport has resulted in the creation of over 100 new jobs. These positions span diverse fields, including flight deck crew, cabin crew, engineering, and ground operations.

This job growth reflects the airline’s commitment to contributing positively to the local economy. It provides employment opportunities that support both the regional economic structure and the local populace.

The new base is expected to generate additional economic activity, underpinning the strategic importance of establishing Bournemouth as a stronghold for Jet2’s expansion efforts.

    Strategic Insights from Jet2

According to Steve Heapy, chief executive of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, the company’s strategic growth at Bournemouth airport aligns with longstanding plans. ‘We’ve seen an immediate surge in bookings, and that demand does not seem to be slowing down,’ he stated.

Heapy also expressed optimism for potential growth, highlighting the reception from local customers and independent travel agents. The new routes are expected to bolster Jet2’s presence in the competitive travel market.

    Bournemouth’s New Travel Hub

The arrival of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays transforms Bournemouth airport into a bustling travel hub. The first flight is scheduled to depart to Tenerife on 1st April 2025, marking the operational commencement of this venture.

Bournemouth stands to benefit from enhanced connectivity to major tourist destinations. The airport will function as a vital part of Jet2’s network expansion, providing more travel options to its customers.

As Jet2 strengthens its foothold in Bournemouth, the future looks promising for both the airline and the local economy, with continued growth expected in upcoming seasons.
