Riviera Travel has laid out an ambitious plan to spearhead sustainability within the travel sector. Their new initiatives encompass environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects, aiming to significantly reduce carbon footprints and promote ethical operations.

These strategic initiatives, encapsulated in the ‘Doing the right thing’ plan, will commence immediately. Riviera Travel’s approach revolves around four key pillars: sustainability, carbon footprint management, ethical operations, and charitable contributions, forming the backbone of their sustainable transformation.

    Strategic Pillars of Sustainability

Riviera Travel is making strides in sustainability by introducing a comprehensive plan focused on four pivotal areas. Sustainability and carbon footprint management are at the forefront, with the company aiming for a 20 per cent reduction in guests’ carbon footprints by 2028. This will be meticulously measured per customer per night, ensuring transparency and accountability in their operations.

    Efforts to Enhance Ethical Practices

The introduction of a robust ethics policy is a testament to Riviera Travel’s commitment to responsible travel. This policy encompasses stringent measures for labour standards, human rights, and animal welfare. Furthermore, the company is promoting renewable energy, cementing its status as a leader in sustainable tourism.

Suppliers are required to adhere to this new sustainability checklist, ensuring all parties involved uphold these values. This initiative signifies Riviera Travel’s dedication to ethical partnerships and long-term sustainability.

Cutting Down on Plastics and Paper Usage

By 2025, Riviera Travel aims to halve the use of plastics and paper, underscoring its dedication to reducing waste.

This initiative aligns with broader ESG goals, enhancing the company’s overall ecological footprint.

The reduction plan involves integrating greener energy sources into daily operations, highlighting their commitment to environmentally-friendly travel solutions.

Through these projects, Riviera Travel hopes to harness Practical Action’s expertise, reflecting a shared vision for impactful change in travel practices.

CEO Phil Hullah’s Vision and Leadership

Phil Hullah, CEO of Riviera Travel, champions this transformational change. His leadership is instrumental in steering the company towards these ambitious goals.

Hullah states, “With the launch of our new plan, we will start the next phase of our journey, the aim being to ensure that Riviera, our partners and our peers do the right thing in every way we can.”

Through collaborative efforts, Hullah envisions wider change within the industry, leveraging partnerships to drive sustainable innovation.

    Enhanced Digital Experience

Riviera Travel’s recent website relaunch aims to improve functionality for travel agents and guests, signifying a digitalisation strategy that aligns with their sustainability goals. This advancement not only boosts user experience but also promotes responsible travel through digital channels.

The updated site serves as a platform for guests to explore sustainable travel options, underscoring Riviera’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.

    Future Endeavours

Looking to the future, Riviera Travel plans to expand its cruise programme, integrating sustainability into every aspect. Their tall-ship ocean cruise programme for 2025 is a testament to this vision.

These new offerings are designed to appeal to environmentally-conscious travellers, showcasing Riviera’s ongoing commitment to providing sustainable travel solutions.

Riviera Travel’s progressive sustainability plans reflect a deep-seated commitment to ethical and eco-friendly travel. As they transition into a new era of responsible tourism, their strategy sets a benchmark for industry peers, demonstrating how businesses can effectively contribute to environmental preservation while delivering exceptional travel experiences.
