Data from the Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers reveals a significant recovery in sales for 2023, exceeding figures from 2019.

The robust performance indicates a strong rebound in the touring sector, supported by comprehensive data analysis and strategic insights.

The Association of Touring & Adventure Suppliers (Atas) has marked a significant milestone with a 4% increase in bookings for 2023 compared to 2019. This marks the first time pre-pandemic sales volumes have been surpassed, pointing to a robust recovery in the touring and adventure sectors. The data, compiled by Atas in partnership with Radar, a customer data analyst, presents a clear picture of growing consumer confidence and demand.

Revenue in 2023 saw record-breaking figures, with booking values for departures surging 64% compared to 2022. This impressive growth illustrates the sector’s resilience and adaptability amidst a challenging economic landscape. As destinations reopened, travellers responded positively, contributing to the sector’s strong performance. Looking ahead, forward bookings for 2024 have already shown a promising 42% increase compared to the previous year, indicating sustained momentum.

The analysis emphasised the difference in booking values, highlighting that trade sales average £4,565 compared to £2,660 when booked directly by consumers – a notable 43% difference. Such statistics underscore the value of the trade sector within the industry.

The report indicated that the average booking lead time is between four to six months, with trips lasting between six to ten days. This insight helps suppliers in logistics planning and resource allocation, enhancing the customer experience.

The alliance’s strategic focus on sustainability is further evidenced by new initiatives, aiming to balance growth with ecological considerations. As the sector recovers, environmental sustainability remains a top priority, influencing industry practices and consumer preferences.

The insights gained from the 2023 data underscore the industry’s resilience and adaptability, paving the way for sustained growth and innovation in 2024 and beyond. With a focus on strategic planning and sustainability, Atas members are well-positioned to capitalise on emerging opportunities.

Atas data depicts a thriving recovery trend in the touring sector, indicating a profitable and sustainable path forward.
