An unexpected tragedy struck Majorca as a restaurant collapse resulted in four fatalities and injuries to 16 others.

    • The Medusa Beach Club in Palma de Majorca was the site of this devastating incident on Thursday evening.
    • Authorities are investigating the cause, with initial reports suggesting that excess weight on a terrace may have contributed.
    • No British nationals are believed to be involved, according to the UK Foreign Office.
    • Emergency services have been working tirelessly to manage the aftermath and assist those affected.

On Thursday night, a tragic incident unfolded at the Medusa Beach Club in Palma de Majorca, resulting in the death of four individuals and injuring 16 others. The collapse occurred around 8.30pm local time at the beachside venue, alarming both local residents and tourists in the area.

The sudden collapse has prompted an investigation by authorities, who are looking into the possibility that the structure failed due to excessive weight on the terrace. A local police spokesperson conveyed to Spanish radio station RNE that this is one of the primary theories being considered, though no definitive cause has been determined at this time.

The UK Foreign Office has reported that no Britons are thought to have been involved in the incident. A representative stated, “We are aware of an incident in Palma, and there are currently no reports of British nationals having been involved.” This has been a point of some relief for British tourists and their families both in Spain and abroad.

Social media has played a significant role in capturing the scene, with videos and images shared widely depicting the crowd that gathered as emergency services worked to rescue and recover those trapped in the debris. This community response highlights the gravity of the event as well as the solidarity among those present.

Majorca, a prominent destination within Spain’s Balearic Islands, attracted over 17 million international tourists last year alone. It remains unclear if those affected by this collapse were local residents or visitors from abroad, adding a layer of complexity to the unfolding situation.

The incident at Medusa Beach Club continues to unfold as authorities work to determine the cause and support those impacted.
